7mm-08 has been called by many the "best deer caliber ever built". Buddy of mine has one and handloads for it. I really wish I had one

Ive used it for over 25 yrs now, extremely accurate, low recoil, easy to reload for i've made 120 to 170 grain bullets with numerus powders & primers and all shoot sub moa at 100 yds. in the remington model 7 with 18 inch bbl it is short, light handy in a tree or heavy brush and with a low power variable scope ( I use a leupold 1.5x5) on the low power setting it is faster on a snap/running shot than my open sighted winchester or sluggun. the only down sides I've found are the trigger pull from the factory stinks, have a good gunsmith bed the barrel/ lighten and smooth the action and trigger, and put a good quality recoil pad on it (money well spent ) and you will never want to use anything else. I have a fair amount of deer rifles and this is my favorite. I had some problems using nosler ballistic tips and barnes x bullets when they first came out, good lung/shoulder shots and the deer hardly felt it they resumed eating as if nothing had happened small entry and exit holes. this happened 2x for me & 2x for my hunting bud using a 308, distances were short at 20 - 40 yds. since switching to nosler partitions they usualy drop in their tracks,I now use a high shoulder shot when possible. a 308 will probably work just as well for you and easier/cheaper to find ammo if you dont reload.
