Didn't want to hijack the other thread, so here is my question. What ammo have you shot (killed something) with and how happy were you with it? I've been shooting the the cheap Federal soft points, 100 grain and have taken a few hogs with them. I'm not overly impressed with them. They do the job but seem to break into little pieces and leave Very small exit wounds. Luckily I haven't had to track anything to far after shooting because their was zero blood to follow. I've also shoot the 95 grain ballistic tips which are very accurate but I've read bad things about them so I haven't tried shooting them at anything. Any suggestions??? I plan on using this rifle for deer season for the first time. Here are some pics of hogs taken by the 243.
my buddy hunts hogs and deer in texas with a hornady 58 grain black moly. .243. and the damage was devastating. Saw him toast a ga. coyote. exit wound took its whole front leg off.
I used to hunt with remington core-locs in my .270. Had 1 shell misfire. never shot them again. now is shoot winchester supreme 130 grn. that round does everything i need it to do.
243 ballistic silver tips 100gr, Shot a buck last year with it and dropped it in it's tracks. That's the only time I used it so far.
i shoot the ballistic tips in my 25-06, had one deer drop in her tracks and another run maybe 30 yards. usually shooting hornady as well.
