Been shooting 270s for along time. Not gonna get into the 270, 308 or 30-06 discussion over which one shoots flatter.. they are all so close it really doesn't matter. But what i can contribute is ammo. Have shot just about every brand out there.

130 grn cor-locs. Shot well always had exit holes. both deer and hogs. Have some QC issues with some ammo and i don't shoot it any more.

150 grn cor locs. Shot well and always had exit holes. But the exit holes on deer were massive. was losing too much meat. Stopped shooting them as well.

130 grn Hornady SSTs. tried them but could never get them to group worth a darn in all 3 of my .270s

130 grn Winchester Supreme. Ballistic tip. Rifles shot them well, but never had any exit wounds, even on neck shots. Finished a wounded animal off one time with a shot to the head at 15 feet, with no exit hole.

130 Barnes Vortex TTSX. ( tipped triple shock) I currently shoot these. I am happy with the results. And my main 2 rifles i hunt with will both group these bullets well. The only down side is that the bullet will pencil through with not much if any expansion under 40 yds. Still traveling too fast. Experienced that on a deer hunt last year, i called barnes and their tech guy confirmed that is what happened.

The best all around factory bullet i have ever shot in my rifles were the 140grn Winchester Fail-safes. Which i think they still load , but they are the XP load i believe. They put a tip on it and charge way too much for it.

I would say , if you can grab a box of a couple different loads and see what your rifle will shoot the best. then go from there.

I have used the ballistic silvertips, In my opinion, for whats it's worth, i don't care for them for short range use, i have nailed several deer at close range, 50-60 yards, perfect shots, and had the deer run quite a while, i think they are too hot at close range, perhaps at 200-300 yards they would be fine. most often in florida you don't take them long range shots. I used to use those south african PMP rounds (130 gr), and they performed well, at a third of the price of the silvertips, all the deer i hit with them dropped on the spot, but i can't find them anymore.

Like I have said before....If they(bt's) were my only choice, I would sell every rifle I own and strictly bow hunt

Here is an 8pt I killed in South carloina with a 30-06 and a 150gr black box Win BST like pictured in this thread

I shot this deer at 45 yards perfectly broadside. You can see the bulge in the skin on the opposite side in the guts where the bullet was lodged. The bullet hit just behind the shoulder(where I was aiming), turned and tried to exit way back there where I wasn't aiming or intending the bullet to go

I watched this deer run all the way down into a draw, up the other side and clear the ridge. Only way I knew he was hit is he was stumbling going up the other side. Only reason I found him is my then-brother in law had a buddy with a dog
There was never a drop of blood. Only one tuft of hair where he was standing. We estimated teh deer ran over 500 yards

That's two deer I had the bullet turn on and go somewhere else in the deer I didn't want it to go. The other one was a 6 point I shot in the neck, and i found part of the bullet in the ham...after it tore up the strap, guts and everything else in its way

Oh, and I was with kemster when he had his miff with the BT's. When I heard him shoot 7 times in about 10 minutes, I got down to loan him my gun because I knew exactly what the problem was before i got to him

I shot a deer head on, dead center in the throat patch at app 30 yds with the then new nosler balistic tip in 7mm08, no exit wound, it continued eating as if nothing happened. a second 1 between the eye and ear did the trick. maybe they have improved since then but I found that the partitions are accurate in all my guns and I know 100% they will work well at any range or velocity.
