Going to pick up a Rmington 700 tomorrow. Having never shot anything but a Marlin 30-30 I'm new to the .270. I see 130 and 140 grain is the most common weight bullet out there, but there's many other brands. What do you prefer and why? Just trying to get an idea of what i should buy before heading to the range! Thanks. :toast

I know the .270 is a flatter shooting round than the 30/06 making it better for long distance shots, but maybe a heavier .270 round will benefit the .270 in terms of short distance stopping power. Most of my shots will be within 100 yards anyways. What say you?

The velocity of a 130 will provide what I like to call the 'death ray' factor. Try a variety to see what it likes, federal fusion, winchester black box (some either silver tips or partition gold), hornady superformance interlocks or SST's will all so what you require and then some.

I bought a rem 700 .270 last season and love it. It's the second one I've owned and I just killed two deer with it,one at around 70 yards and one a little over 100 yards. I shoot 150 grain core loct from wal-mart. They shoot great, and thump hard. Both shots took out the heart, but the first one went thru both shoulders breaking bone, completly ruining them. My son used a 100 grn core loct and killed a deer as well.

I think I'm going to go with the 130g Core-Lokt for this hog hunt coming up.
