I knew you would like the hornady lever ammo once you checked it out.core locs or good but the hornady ammo is bad azz.I even switched to it in my ruger 480 for bear hunting

What I did the other day is shoot some core-loks to get it roughly sighted in. I shot 3 shells of the Hornady's to fine tune it a bit and I could feel a difference in the ammo. I could actually feel they were a bit hotter load

i shot my deer last year with a .243 Winchester Silver ballistic tip. 50 yard or so shot and the deer only ran about another 20 yards

I went to the Brady Ranch one time to hunt Axis Deer. The other guy in camp said he only uses a .243 because of a shoulder injury years back. He likes the Swift Scirocco bullet in 95 gr. ( http://www.swiftbullets.com/index.html ) The jacket is thick and won't come apart...something that has a good chance of happening when shooting a hog. I think that is the key. Many have shot hogs with many different bullets with success...with a LARGER caliber. We're talking about a .243. That guy hunts hog, whitetail/mule deer, antelope and caribou with the 95 gr. Scirocco bullet with 100% success (according to him). Based on the bullet design, I don't argue with him. I know Remington, and I think Federal, load this bullet in their lineup. You might have to buy it online at a place like Midway USA or something. My local Bass Pro has it too.

Of the game I've shot (exotics and hogs), I've always used Remington Core-Lokt. All have been one shot kills with no need for tracking. But, I used a .30-06 on each. I think the heaviest animal was a hog at just under 250 pounds. Most animals were around 100 - 120 pounds. Not much of a challenge for a .30-06.

Another bullet design I like...for the .243, is the Barnes Triple Shock. I don't think they are needed in larger calibers. But for a .243 on a (possibly) tough hog, it might be just the extra toughness you need.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the info. I just bought three boxes of Barnes triple shock bullets and I'll know how they perform in the up coming weeks. I'll post the results when the time comes. I'll also check the Scirocco's out.

i know a guy that uses the barnes on his re-loads, nice rounds. you should be happy with the triple shok, once my vital shoks are done, im gonna give those a try. so far i havent shot anything that i am unhappy with. i prefer the hornady and federal shok ammo
