For 400 acres, the optimal amount of land in food plots is about 8 acres. I would keep the plots to 1/4 acre or less and situate them in locations that are more focused in the middle of the property if you can. And make them irregular shapes with lots of cover available close by. The deer seem to be more comfortable hitting food plots during the day if the plot is isolated and has good cover available. Like frankwt said, you'll want to do a good soil analysis to get the most out of your plots. They also need to have direct sun for at least 4 hours a day. This time of year in north FL, brasicas (purple top turnips, forage rape, kale) along with winter rye and winter wheat work well.

Great! with the farmer leaving the crop in the fields you may not need food plots, other than in non farmed land areas, your feeders should suffice. Have you put game cams out to see what is there??
