My old buddy carries a back pack so big I swear you could put a deer in it. No way you could get anything out of it. Like Dony said, you can carry whatever you want, but if you can't access it w/o making too mmuch noise and movement its worthless. I carry a lot of stuff, but its either in a fanny pack r a camel-bak, both of which are small and have tons of compartments.
Once I get int he stand I usually take out what I need for the hunt and put it in the pocket of my leafy suit so its easy to access
switched from backpack to ill say waist pack lol sounds better...but bright eyes, trail marker tape, small notebook/pen, small first aid kit, 2 batteries, flashlight, headlamp, lighter/magnesium stick, snacks, grunt/doe bleat, water, compass, gun/bow hoist rope, face mask and whatever else in my pants pockets. And it is hard to carry a backpack and climber, first time had to stick the backpack in the climber opening.
Thermacell, skinning knife, gps, compass, flashlight, zipties, matches, granola bars, bottle water, licence, bleat, grunt, cell phone.
hunting public land i only carry what i find necessary. t.p., ammo, water. anything else i need i keep in the truck and will get after recovery of animal and return to check station.
use an old leather possibles bag. Small flashlite or headband lite, matches, TP, Knives(2), compass, bandaids, strips of leather or rope. Apples, raisins, and candy bar, water.
