To answer another one of your questions...Usually the hens will be together and the gobblers will be together, but not usually mixed up till spring. right now I have a group of 3 hens, a group of 4 hens, and a group of 4 gobblers coming to one feeder, but never mixed
Hey kc45 make sure you post up some pictures if you get one. I've never turkey hunted but with the place up in Live Oak I may try my hand in the spring. I know they're out there. I've seen them but been interested in bringing the deer in for now. Good luck on your hunt.
if you pluck it to get the fine hair like feather light a small bowl of alcohol on fire and with both hands rotate bird over it.
I actually grind my wild turkey after i bake and debone it and make turkey salad out of it.
hens are brown in the body color....toms are black
use a blind or good camo & face net
shoot for the neck where the neck skin and feathers meet.....keep your head down on the stock of the gun or you will miss high
good luck
Tried my first wild bird this year and will never do another one most guys say just take the breasts and make turkey salad out of it or fry strips. Better to just take he spurs, beard and Tail fan and throw the rest out but I wasn't raised that way so had to try it.
