It's definitely been a slow start on my lease. I'm putting as many hours as ever and seeing very little sign. Hoping the rut will kick off soon. Saw a few sets of tracks that looked like they were chasing last week but nothing this week. I'm beginning to think they're all on vacation
From studies deer come into estrus about the same time depending on zones of the deer herds in which they live.There are several "reasons" why deer breed activity levels are more noticed like more or less of an age class in the herd, cooler weather and human pressure are all factors.Yes food can be a factor but has been shown that mast crops change more the patterns of daily habit than of life cycles unless a years food source has been damaged.Then with losses of food sources predation starvation and health become issues in breeding and these can play havoc on the next year and even several years herd success.
good thing i have alot of acorns. i would think they will be soured soon. i think just about all the acorns on my place are on the ground. not many left in the trees.
