doghunter.. hate to get involved in yours and nacho's conversation but i'm not convinced on the 00 buck at 110 yds. where are you at in N. Florida? i would like to see this shooting demonstration. the fastest 3 1/2 " shotshell (fps at 3') is about 1200 fps. 2 3/4" are actually are faster by almost 200 fps. one or 2 pellets might hit that melon but i don't think there is gonna nothing left for energy. IMO. Also shooting 00 through a turkey choke makes for some real bad patterns..just saying.
if you don't have a reasonable expectation of killing the deer with the first shot then it's not a shot worth taking. any idea how little energy is retained by one pellet of 00 buck at 110 yds, certainly not enough to adequately penetrate bone, the best you could hope to do is blind or gut shoot not to mention it is bobbing and weaving thru brush at 35-40 mph. hitting a stationary watermelon at 100 yds, big deal, I hit a balloon at 200 yds with a 357 snub nose( not the first try) but I sure wouldn't shoot a deer with one at that range. you said you were shooting at deer all day yet only recovered 2. so how many does that leave wounded to suffer and die needlessly. if thats what deer doggin is all about I'll pass. I've hunted birds plenty over dogs and always recovered what we shot when using dogs. using 00 buckshot at that range is just plain irresponsible. man up and admit it.
Look man,I don't know how many of you ever experienced running a deer with a dog but it is unreal. And when a buck hits the road you dump lead at it. If you don't get it now you never will.If I seen horns crossing the road I'd empty my gun on it ,I don't care how far off it is. I wouldn't want to be on the other end of buckshot at 100 yards.
come on SA "you don't care how far off it is youre still gonna shoot at it" how irresponsible does that sound, so 200 yds 300, a mile , or just shoot at anything you see? thats not hunting it's reckless killing and maiming and I'd want no part of it and I hope no ethical "HUNTER" would either.

aint got nothing to do with running dogs, just buck shot at over 100+yds.Yall mite be right about that but Id have to see it.Ive shot many a buck shot and never in my dreams thought about 100+yds
not knocking deer dogging either. just not agreeing with the 100+ yds shots with buckshot. i understand the excitement thing also. but i guess when you are throwing a pattern of 60+ pellets( 4 rounds of 3 1/2" 00), luck has alot to do with it, marksmanship is kinda out of the window at that point.
