Nice one Dave. 4 1/2 days of sitting paid off. :toast
come on SA "you don't care how far off it is youre still gonna shoot at it" how irresponsible does that sound, so 200 yds 300, a mile , or just shoot at anything you see? thats not hunting it's reckless killing and maiming and I'd want no part of it and I hope no ethical "HUNTER" would either.
I didn't say that Nacho. 100 yards is not out of the question with buckshot. I killed a boar hog crossing a road with buckshot at 80. 2 3/4 00 one pellet went right thru the head and it fell dead right in the road. I don't think I could see horns on a running deer over 100 yards so I wouldn't attempt a shot over that but if I seen horns at any distance while running a deer with dogs I'd be shooting at it. When running deer with dogs they don't give you the easy ,standing broadside shots like when sitting in a stand. This is a guy who has been posting pics of BUCK DEER with antlers killed with primitive weapons so far this year, mainly with bow and arrows. DAmn right I'll stick up for him.NAcho in the over one year you've been on here you put up one pic of a hog you killed you shot out of your car.Show us what you killed up north. If the guy was putting up pics of button bucks killed with hi-powered rifles and scoped while sitting in stands I'd rag him to but he's not. Dog hunting is a true "Team Sport" needing experienced people and good well trained dogs. And btw, none of you experts never made a miss or a gut shot sitting from a stand? I know it's never happened to me before because I'm Gods gift to the world but no others are like me. All I know when we get under a buck with a dog,we shoot at it's ass. The dogs will catch it if it's been hit, same as a hog.I made a good shot on a buck with my black powder rifle and I had to run it down and kill it,was that unethical?I respect wildlife and do my best not to show graphic, repulsive photo's of animals and I know I have let over 20 does and spikes walk this season myself while bow hunting alone. As far as shooting a melon at 100,try it and see of you can hit it, I bet I could.
a melon sitting on a stump and a deer running full tilt thru woods are 2 entirely different things. I'm not knocking his sport AT ALL and I think hunting with dogs is the best way to hunt, also not denying he has skills. just a poor decision to shoot buckshot at that distance, THATS ALL. if the odds of making a clean kill with a shot are slim to none, a better opportunity will come up. and you are right I haven't racked up a huge pile of animals since I've been down here, thats not what its about for me. I have nothing to prove to anyone but myself. and I'm not big on photos, I have all the pictures I need in my head, I pretty much stopped taking them in the early 90's. if I could figure out how to scan and post some of the few pics i have from "up north and out west I" might, but probly not I'm not looking for a pat on the back. I spend a lot more time thinking/planning/day dreaming and prepping for a hunt than the actual time in the field and enjoy that also.
We all enjoy the woods and posting up pics of kills and stories. The guy had a story and usually has some pics.I enjoy his posts and look forward to them,he don't deserve a grilling everytime he puts something up. That's all this was about imo. It's all good.
Back when I deer-dogged, I hunted with this old man. He had an old browning auto with a 32" full choke. I watched him roll a deer at 117 yards with it, with 3" #1 buck. I verified it with a range finder. He put about 10 pellets in the deers head and neck. Deer never took a step or flinched. Would I try it, not a chance in hell. I know my gun won't do it.
