Hunted this weekend and saw 1 doe at first light on Saturday morning. She winded me and trotted back off where she came in from. Sat in a different spot in the afternoon and could hear some guy talking a ways off in the woods. I thought it could have been the near by houses so I didn't pay much attention. Turned out that I had setup about 50-60 yards away from a guy. I never saw him. I saw his light once it got dark and we ended up walking out of the woods together. I apologized to him and he was cool about everything. He said he didn't even hear or see me come in.
Went to another area on Sunday. Got a little turned around and couldn't find where I had marked last year. Decided I better find a tree and get set before sun up. Picked a nice tree and climed. After sun up, I noticed how open it was behind me. No way I could tell if something walked behind me that morning. Didn't see anything that morning.
Been hunting about 4 years now and I still haven't seen a buck in the woods. Frustrates me so bad! The only thing that keeps me doing this is when I am walking around and I see new sign and game trails. Makes me want to sit this area.
Anyone else feel this way?
public land is frutrating. i have not seen a buck on pubilc land in 2 years. the best chance is hunt the rut. also if you are getting bored and frustrated focus on pigs. thats what i do. i go out looking for pigs and if i see a deer its a bonus!
This will be my first year and i'm only looking for hog's. I hope to learn the thing's I need to try for deer next year.

Rut for this area is in January. But you need quotas to hunt each weekend. Only one hog was taken out this weekend. That's a problem since this area was full of hogs last year. I think that poachers may be contributing to the low counts this year. This weekend was the first time it's been open for hunting this year. Last year was a slaughter house on the hogs.
Gonna focus on another WMA since I don't have any more quotas for this area. Last year I hunted there almost every weekend because permits were transferrable. This year. One time and that's it till next year. Don't like the new system.
Sounds like you hunt the same place I do. My buddy killed a 8pt in there this weekend. He gets to hunt it all season this year. (65 years old).
