A trophy buck is what you make it. I have a 112" 10 point that is my pride and joy. He is my biggest deer, and it was the highlight of my hunting career when I pulled the trigger on him. In other parts of the country, a 112' deer is left to pass. If you shoot a buck and it is a trophy to you, then it is a trophy....Just my opinion
Personally I think trophy hunting has about ruined hunting
My old man always told me "You can't eat the horns."
That being said, it is nice to have something to reflect back on, but it's all what you make of it, in my opinion. Was there a newbie with you? A weekend hunt with a good buddy? Those are bigger factors to me than the horns.
I remember some of my best hunting times were using up our doe tags when I lived in Indiana (you can get up to 4 in the county I hunted) because it wasn't as "intense" and competitive, and we relaxed and enjoyed ourselves more.
