What kind of scope mounts do I need for a Remington 700.
Weaver style rings and mounts are all I have ever used. Never had a scope to move
So I'm gonna need a base mount and a set of rings?
That place has everything, kind of confusing there's so many to choose from. Definitly want something good.
what is the objective diameter of the scope? I'm assuming 40 or 50 mm. having the objective bell as close to but not touching the barrel is the most accurate. but alot depends on how the stock fits you, you do not want to have to scrunch down to be able to see thru the scope, or have it so high you have to lift your face off the stock to see thru it either.just right is when you close your eyes raise the gun to a good /comfortable shooting position then open your eyes and you should be looking clearly thru the scope, not too high/low/close or far from your face. next come bases and rings. the bases attatch to the gun first and can be one piece or 2 piece ( one front and 1 rear ). the one piece is imo stronger but spans the opening of the action and takes away a little room for loading ( gotta make sure it doesn't intefere with loading or ejection ). the bottom 1/2 of the rings can be threaded/screw on or dovetail mounts ( dovetails slide in place then turn 90 degres to lock in place ) for a normal gun either done correctly and sealed with locktite shouldn't move at all. being that is a fairly light gun and heavy recoil I would personaly opt for the strongest avail ( for me thats a one piece base and dovetailed rings) and make sure whichever brand you get is ALL steel. I've used leupold and burris and like both but think burris all steel are cheaper and stronger and the rings come with an inner liner for extra strenght and hold the scope truer. they are great people to deal with , call them and talk with one of their techies and he will get you what you need. they are not the easiest to install, just the best ( I snapped off the first dovetails over tightening, but they replaced them free and fast). sorry for the lengthy post but theres alot to consider, the best scope will still shoot like crap if not installed right.
