I really don't think of it as much as I should possibly. I think 99% of the scent stuff is gimmicky junk ALTHOUGH I also use a whole bottle of cover scent per bow season. I've killed a fair share of deer during bow season and I know I reaked of human scent nearly everytime.
During gun season I very rarely wear camo much less worry about scent.
I hunt the wind as much as possible, I only hunt areas where the wind tends to swirl in the morning when thermals are usually rising. I try to approach and hunt my stands with the wind in my face etc. That being said I still try to minimize my scent by washing my clothes in a home made scent free detergent, and then keep them in a tote with a lid. I take a bath with scent free soap before the hunt, and only wear my rubber hunting boots when I'm in the woods. And when possible I will use wood smoke as a cover scent. Yes I still try to eliminate my human scent, but the smoke acts as an extra cover and the smoke actually helps to kill the bacteria that causes human odor as well. It's a natural smell to deer and doesn't cause them to spook.
I use Tink's spray for scent control, a smoker can spray their hand and never smell the old smoke anymore. I live 2 months a year deer hunting across the Midwest and between my Muck Boots, Tink's for a spray, wash and air out my clothes rarely do I get caught by a deer. Now when nature calls, urine is urine so go right out of the stand, you do not have human scent in nitrogen which basically is residuals from urine, many deer have come by my tree and never cared about urine. Cover scents are a big item is you use them, remember fox scent means a predator and we use pine or acorn scent on our boots unless we are using a scent drag. Carbon suits do not work more than 30 days out of the vacuum packed packages and a dryer will not get hot enough to reactivite it. Get high enough in a tree to disburse your scent, try not to move much or quickly and you will find animals will and can be a little forgiving on scent detection. Just my experiences and the way I hunt along with the man who really taught me to use scents and concealing human scent, stick with anything Tink's!
