look-i don't want hate mail. I don't want anybodys dog to get hurt or killed. And yes I lost my german shorthair while duck hunting in South Bay at a sugar plantation. hunted that gator for 3 days. never found that gator. I don't hate all gators because of that. if a gator is in my neighborhood-he's dead. But it's like saying you will kill all panthers-bears-or whatever because they are a threat to you while hunting. We have a major difference of opinion-that's all.
OK let me explain it to you so maybe you understand. I personally don't kill gators or break game laws.I have never killed a gator in the woods like that. You are hunting in a dog hunt area and probably don't know much about the people who hunt there or have hunted there forever. You seen something that happens all the time, and always will happen. If you go tromping around places like that you will encounter lots of people that will disagree with you up there. My buddy had two of his dogs shot by a guy and he almost lost his life over it. People love their hounds and do what they will to protect them.
Agree 100% hunted 50 years in Ocala wma. hunted up north and out west. I have found bears dead in Tenn. with just their paws cut off. I guess I was outraged that there was no harvesting of the tail or skin. I took it as a useless killing if there was no utilization of the animal. In Ocala 2 years ago my son and found 2 dead gators but there tails were gone and they were partially skinned. yes they were poached but some one utilized part of the animal. I hope that explains better what I was mad about. let us both enjoy the woods in our own way. I understand your point of view. I hope you understand mine. as they say- we agree to disagree. good hunting.
years ago my Dad and I hunted frequently with some "high iron" workers in the everglades. The used dogs to run the deer. they cherished the dogs BUT if the dogs ran something more than 3 times that wasn't a deer, they disposed of the dog. they wouldn't feed a dog that couldn't run a deer. I thought that was quite harsh but that was their way of hunting. I accepted their way of hunting when I was with them. They were great to hunt with and be with. We were just different in some of our ideas. by the way they were Native Americans who loved to hunt.
I'll add to the conversation but not in an argumentative way.
Dog running and gators don't mix well. Very few gators live that long in dog hunt areas, especially when they mature and start going after dogs. I've never killed a gator in my life though..
