What part of Ca are you from .I lived in San Joaquin Valley for 15yrs.Used to duck and dove hunt out there.Manteca,Ripon,Modesto. I lived 13 miles from the gate of Yosemite.Buck Meadows. Too many tree huggers out there!
Certainly not during the part of the year when you aren't allowed to have guns there, which would mean only during hunting season, which is when you should should not be plinking since folks are out there hunting.....

I was in Malibu in 93' during those wildland fires .They called us down from our volunteer station in Buck Meadows. That was a nasty fire. Saw million dollar homes going up in embers the size of softballs.
That I know of Babcock/Webb WMA and Ocala National forest both have public ranges. Both are fee free.
