Been in Florida since 2005 and my best advise would be to find property that backs up to a WMA, Federal Land or South FL Water Management District property and buy it, if you plan on staying in FL. Like everything else FL has a lot of similar qualities to CA, one being access to private land. I haven't been to a public or private range here with the exception of one, been to over 15 in the state, that I would take a child under the age of 15 to. Things are different north of Ocala but south of Ocala, buying something will save you time, effort, energy, $$$$$$, jail time, a lawyer and possibly you and your loved ones lives. A few members have done this and they have there own private getaway as well. This post will cause some tension with the natives, but the truth hurts. Every landowner we have run into is so worried about being sued, hunting and shooting access is virtually non existent in the state. Free public ranges I have been to are the wild wild west and if you decide to go that route make sure you are carrying concealed while shooting and the range is cold.
5 y/o might be a little young for live ammo, and I doubt many ranges would allow it, but there are some alternatives that can teach eye/hand coordination, aiming, getting on target, gun mounting form and follow through, that can be done at home. if allowed a bb gun, a red ryder and paper plates swinging on strings. then decrease the size of the plates as skills improve, until they are hitting ping pong balls.
My son was shooting a .410 when he was 4. Matter of fact, so was I. Another matter of fact, exact same gun!!!
Yeah I have had the older one practice with soft air and BB gun and has the fundamentals down. The younger one is the issue.. He is not ready to handle live ammo yet but I can't leave him home alone.. I don't want him to shoot just have to have him along for lack of a better plan. They won't let him on the line anywhere I have talked too. I have not tried those ranges you mentioned yet hog daddy..
Guess I will just have to try to find a sitter and take the older one to a range.
M12 I already was thinking about trying to exactly that. Have not had any luck as of yet finding what I am looking for though but keeping my eyes open 😉
