Outta season deer - Ignorant or mistake?

I hunted Green Swamp this morning and its small game and general gun has been closed for 2 weeks now, for those who hunt small game know it is hog and most small mammal and cant shoot deer. So this guy is at the check station when I left and had a 10pt, and the game warden was there. I dont know the story but obviosly the guy thought you could shoot deer, its not like he was hiding it, but my thing is cmon general gun has been closed for 2 weeks and cmon if you hunt, you know or (should) know the correct dates, my opinion is theres no excuse. They have brochures at the check stations if you never been somewhere. But anyway im sure he got a nice ticket...
