Yes, just don't shoot slugs out of a tight choked barrel or bird shot out of a rifled barrel.

you can shoot slugs out of a regular smooth bore shotgun too, just get the rifled slugs not sabots. And if it has a choke tube make sure it is not a full choke when shooting slugs use a modified choke tube or you can damage your barrel.

So a smooth bore will do both? If you fire a rifled slug can you go back to birdshot and then back to rifled slug?

Yes, as long as you don't have a full choke. Sabots are made for rifled barrels,rifled slugs are made for smooth barrels. A sabot will not fit snug in a smooth bore and will tumble more and not be very accurate.
