Hello all,
Is anyone planning on going out hunting New Years Eve Day (12/31/2009) ?
I was thinking about getting out to Homosassa, Myakka, green swamp, croom, or chass?
having only been to green swamp a few times, and only google map scouted(read planned out where to hunt) Myakka and Croom
where would I have the best luck to bag SOMETHING? ANYTHING? I dont care if its a starving Grey Squirrel.
MY Truck is finally fixed 😐 and am Itching to get in another day or two of hunting if I Can. Starting Jan 2 all my weekends for the next 12 weeks are booked solid 🙁
So unless I take a "Sick day" and hunt during the week this will be the end of my hunting season :eek

I'll be working but mayaka is open untill the 17th of Jan. so you have a little more time for there.
If you like hunting squirrels, in my opinion (and I’m no expert) you’ll probably have better luck in Green Swamp. They are everywhere due to the acorn and hickory nuts. I hunted with my son this past Saturday and got 7 in an hour and a half. Got 4 in 15-20 minutes 2 weeks ago (avatar pic.). I like the Rock Ridge side better than the 471, but my guess is that it makes no difference. I’m sure you can get a limit in a morning hunt if you walk slowly and stop frequently. A squirrel call helps to make them move in order for you to shoot once you spot them. Hogs are still moving around the river at the end of Orange Lake road, just stay to the right when you park and walk towards the river and you’ll see the rooting a few hundred yards from the river. I killed a 90 pound sow there the second weekend of general gun.
I went to Myakka opening weekend (archery & small game) and didn’t see anything.
