I don't wanna be held responsible for inhaling the fumes, as I'm sure it isn't fda or epa approved but it's AG grade permethrin from T.S. diluted 1:100 with water. 10 % solution in a 8 oz btl. it goes a long way. I try and keep it off my skin, it'll make your lips tingle for a few hours if you get any on em. but my tonic will cure that. nice handle, you got jungle fever? my tonic won't fix that.
nacho, does it work the same as the tcel? have much of an odor? sounds cool.
Funny i had one of the old style thermacells that i bought 5 years ago. This thing took a while to heat up and the pads lasted and so did the fuel. Usually i would crank it up when i got into the truck so by the time i got to the stand (bout 25 mins) that it was hott and rocking.
Well since my girl hunts with me now and i got a stand for her i figured i would give mer my old therma cell and finally get one of the new style ones. So i took it to the stand stand and noticed right away 1 or 2 clicks gets it on. ( my older style took 7-8 clicks or more sometimes to light up. Also when it did get on it was burning so hott that it was smoking in a minute. ( the old one took 10-15 minutes to smoke). Then i noticed that i wasted a whole pad just in a morning sit. ( i used to use the pad in the old one 2-3 sits before it turned completely white. Then i noticed that when i flipped the pad it was black burnt looking. ( on my older tc the pads were blue not burnt when i flipped them) so yea ive had noticed the same thing also.
With the pads burning out so fast theres no need to refill the cartridges because you will need to buy pads faster and they come with butane. Before the butane ran out before the pads did so it was worth it to refill. We just need to find a good way to refill the pads .
The igniters and heating elements can't be much too them. I am actually surprised they last as long as they do. I have an old school one that you have to light with a match. They sold them at walgreen's years back dirt cheap, they were like $6. It is my back up to my backup's, back up. I've got one strapped to my pack that goes with me everywhere, one in my ground blind fastened to the roof, and two spares in my ditty bag
I refill cartridges and use mosquito coils instead of pads. A few 1 inch pieces last a long time (sometimes I even forget to replace). Same active ingredient (allethrin) only in a much lower concentration, but at $1.75 a box of 10, you can’t go wrong.
