Has anyone bought the new style of Thermacells recently? I bought one just before archery started and noticed that they are burning hotter than the older style. The blue pads are only lasting one sit before I have to change it. I'm not talking a full day, I'm talking a morning or afternoon sit.
We did a comparison with the old style and the new style side by side the other morning. The old style barely burned the pad where the new style burned it almost completely white after a 4 hour sit.
I bet Thermacell realized that people were refilling their butane and they started losing money. The modified their unit to burn the pads faster so you have to buy more pads.
Next time I'm in the woods, I'm going to cut the pad in half and see whether it repels mosquitoes as well as the whole pad.
One thing I have learned with t-cells..you do not need the whole pad for it to work effectively. I either cut it in half, or only slide 1/2 or so of the pad on the plate

I wouldn't put it past them. burn it hotter and use more fuel AND more pads. it doesn't really affect me cuz I re-fill the butane and soak the used pads in my own repelent concoction. could be possible it's hotter just cuz it's new? big ? is how much did they raise the price? mines 3+ years old and going strong, used it at an outdoor wedding a couple weeks ago.
