Ok i gotta move my deep freezer up north and it has meat in it. about half way full. its a 7cf deep freezer.
My question is: How long before everything thaws out?
I know for a fact driving non stop is 3 hours. But i have to make a stop at a friends house to pick up something, then stop at the docs office and be in there for about an hour then the 3 hour drive.. so im looking at having that deepfreezer in my truck for about 6 hours.. WIll the meat defrost? I have the rest of the freezer filled with jugs that are frozen just incase of a power outage. I just dont want some of that meat to defrost then i refreeze it and i dont want to mess up the meat and possibly get sick..
During the hurricanes, I went 24 hrs+ w/o power and my meat freezers never thawed out
ok so i should be ok.. but remember its gonna be in the back of my pick up on the heat. Yours was in your house in somewhat a cool environment.
C - fill up the empty spots in the freezer with bags of ice or frozen milk jugs. The more full the freezer is, the longer it takes for it to start thawing out. If you cover up the freezer with a light colored blanked, it will protect it from the sun a bit. Doing it this way will hold the meat in the freezer for at least 6 hours with no thawing. Just remove any ice cream and popsicles, cus they thaw first.
I haul frozen meat from Missouri all the time in coolers. You'll be fine.
