I have a friend that does very well using a little old john boat. But he knows that place like the back of his hand and he's a hell a of a hunter. Got some MONSTER deer on his wall from right around the shoreline there. But, unless you are ready to WALK, and get WET, you'll need a blow boat.
There's lots of traffic there. Lots of deer and hogs too. You just have to hunt them different than other places. It's a different environment really. They are used to all the boats and they act accordingly.
The regs are sort of wierd in the sense that you can go from one area with one set of rules to another VERY quickly. You really need to know your landmarks and know where you are. But it's some truly beautiful country, good hunting, good fishing, places to go camping all over. Access is the tricky part....
I was there last weekend and there was the usual summer crowds. Big groups of boats running the trails in the marsh but most folks don't venture too far off the big trails so that's where the good places to go are. We went down around Brahma island and I jumped a white deer (maybe a fallow doe?) and an Axis doe. It was pretty cool. Too bad you can't hunt them there...
