I thought seriously about getting a SPOT, but if I fall and break my neck, then I still can't push the button.
When I hunt alone, I ALWAYS take a gps reading of where I am and text it to my wife. She knows if she doesn't hear from me 2 hours after dark to call for help

Do you have a smartphone? iPhone, BlackBerry, Android? You can use a feature on Google Maps for these phones that lets other users see where you are. The problem is you lose GPS signal on these devices pretty easily in thick woods.

If I hunt alone, I tell my wife the general area that I'll be hunting. I'll print out a map and show her the areas where I setup. She knows if I don't answer way after dark, then something must have happened. She's waiting on something to happen to me, but I keep disappointing her! 😉
