don't discount any type of practice whether freehand or bench. like the old saying "how do you get to Carnegie hall? practice. if you do something a lot and I'm talking minimum 1,000x you're gonna get better at it. look at a roofer using a hammer. by a ton of repetition your body will learn what to do instinctively without thinking about it (muscle memory). so even a mild case of flinches or buck fever can be overcome somewhat if your body maintains the correct gun mounting position and trigger squeeze (not pull or jerk) and this is what only comes by practice, and a lot of it. in my present condition on days when I can't really feel the trigger I gotta trust that my body will squeeze, not jerk the trigger. tons of people brag about never practicing and "I've been using this same box of ammo for over 10-15 years and have gotten a deer with every bullet each year" that very well may be true, they probly don't get buck fever (much), if you don't get it a little you might as well quit hunting. but hitting a dinner plate sized heart/lung kill zone is a lot different than putting 1 right behind the ear on every animal you shoot.

I can out shoot most people at the range one handed. I watched two guys the last time I was there shoot like 3 boxes of ammo and never did get the gun sighted in. :clap

I've been to the public range a lot for me lately, like 5x in the last 6 weeks. and am amazed how bad people shoot. it's a big ego boost for me. don't want to piss off the black rifle crowd but at least 1 of every 3 people at the range are using them, if not more with scopes on a bench/well rested using full body silhouette targets at 25-50 yds and barely hitting paper. it's amazing how fast they can dump a 30 round mag and miss every shot. again not dissing black rifles cuz the general public suck equally with a variety of guns. out of 50 people (at this busy range) you might find 4 that can shoot very well. I like to be nosy and walk up and down the line and see what and how others are doing while waiting for my bbl to cool. I'm thinking of becoming one of those kinda nerdy old farts that use one of those golf bag type carts to haul guns/gear to/from the range.

i have been a lot recently too nacho. at the range i go to they got rid of the 25 yds and moved it down to the pistol range, subsequently a lot of black gun shooters have gone that way as well. if i got a black gun i would want it in at least 308, and when some one builds an ar in 30.06 i will be real interested. until then an old m1 carbine, or garand is fine by me. the only time i miss the target is when i have a scope go bad. for example i was shooting my savage 7mm mag, and the crosshairs just blew apart on the scope that went to it. one more shot couldnt see poi, so i put it up till i get a new scope. these guys should be able to hit paper at 50 yds with open sights and 20/20 vision, with any gun.

Heck, I was mad at myself for missing a rabbit on the first shot yesterday. 50 yard shot with my 22mag should have been a chip shot. I parted his hair. Had to compensate and take a body shot.
