Not sure if I can call it hunting yet, but I at least got out. My father-in-law gave me a compound (we are making amends over past issues). I was in no way thinking of archery this season, but figured I may as well get outside.

I spent Monday northwest of the Ocala shooting range. I was surprised that I saw absolutely nothing other than songbirds. Not to mention, I do not know how guys see animals in brush that thick. Yes, I know that treestands are the way to go, but I just was not ready to do archery season in the first place. I did see raccoon tracks and what I think may be bear tracks, so there are critters out there. My "highlight" was getting my truck stuck. I have an F-150, and yes it is a 2wd. I have never gotten a vehicle stuck. I must have had some karma points, because after not seeing a human all day out there, someone drove by within minutes. He spent his time to give me a hand, and I owe that guy.

Tuesday I watched the sun rise in the southern part of Ocala wma. The area was nicer for hiking. There were deer tracks all over. I took a seat for a while and just enjoyed the cool weather. Lots of squirrels, but I need more bow practice before I even consider that. On my way out, I decided to have a seat at a lake to enjoy the view. A group of three turkeys approached. Well, I sent an arrow out, and it flew right over one's back. After that, I saw the group one more time. Unfortunately, I sound like sasquatch in brush if there is no trail.

A buddy is already razzing me about not getting anything. I told him he can go try. He is under the impression that it is like grocery shopping; you go in, get your food, and come back home. Anyway, I may not of have known what I was doing, but I am glad I just got out. I think it was just enough to get me hooked.

Good job on getting out there. You have to start somewhere, Just keep at it and you'll find a good spot..

Getting out and enjoying nature and being in touch with your spiritual side is the whole idea. Shooting something is secondary. It's always good to get out in the woods once in a while.
