I think that was Crock just blowing some steam, not his argument to have a bear season. I agree a county by county tag system would probably be the best option to get a bear season started. I would also add the area slightly north of Orlando (around Wekiva Springs area up to Deland and possibly further) in the zones that could sustain a small bear harvest. I grew up in these areas and they are loaded with big blacks. Although I would like to see a season I'm not holding my breath. I don't see it in the next 6+++ years.
Concur. The Wekiva Springs (North-Northeast of Orlando) up to around Deland. I've seen bears in Longwood, Lake Mary/Heathrow, Wekiva/Wekiva Springs and out towards Mount Dora on Hwy 46. It would have to be a limited tag system.
Food plot - cut off the corn. Make your presence known to the momma and "most of the time" she'll try to avoid your area. Worked for me.
Yea.. i grew up in jersey where the bears would come into yoru backyard.. so they dont really bother me.. Just showing pics. im not gonna lie.. one of my biggest fears is walking up on a mama with 4 cubs and noticing this when your a little too close. but otherwise oh well!
I seriously hope yall see the big picture. Opening a bear season because they are camping out under deer feeders, or they are showing up on game cams are the wrong reasons. They are wild animals looking for a meal, just like every other critter out there. If the FWC uses that as a basis to open a season, then they are a bunch of idiots. Bears are a unique and important part of the ecosystem. I'll bet there are not more than 2 areas of the state that can sustain a bear harvest(Ocala and the panhandle)
Just from hunting around them for 6 years, I grew to respect them and understand them. Any aggression they showed was 100% of the time due to food.
I feel privileged I got to see a bunch of them in the wild. Truly one of natures finest works of artJust my opinion
you sound like someone else i used to hunt with.. Cough Cough..
Just my opinion, and I stand behind it
