A good friend of mine from central Indiana brought his two sons down for their first hog hunt and to try and warm up, joined by some mutual friends from Clearwater and Gulfport we made a go of it trying to get into some pigs.

First sit Shawn missed a pig at 22 yards, he blamed his scope being sighted in at 100 yards, uhm sure thing pal. That evening I switched him to another feeder and after the deer and turkeys cleared out he managed to take the black hog, his third ever. His oldest son managed to put down this yellow Barr in the evening, said it had u inquest colors compared to the black hogs and one red hog he saw. His other son missed two hogs at 30 and 8 yards, we figured he was nervous at his first encounter with pigs.

I chose not to hunt that day but the next morning I went to th first stand shawn missed a hog on and aFter watching deer got down for a stroll, I wasn't 200 yards when this guy stepped out in front of me. Soon as I shot three more ran behind me but I was generous and didn't crumple a second. Maybe 20 minutes later my friends oldest son echoed across the woods and fields with a kaboom, I headed toward him and after about a 90 yard blood trail found this boar at the end, he was extremely happy.

My old boar hog

Next afternoon his oldest son watched three hogs but didn't shoot saying they wouldn't stop meandering while under the feeder and didn't want to shoulder shoot one and waste meat, kids...... My friend from Clearwater was watching does and after 9 years bowhunting without taking a shot drew and let an arrow fly, first arrow released and first animal taking one of the remaining doe tags on the ranch.

I did a bit of stalking and managed to find a sow with babies weighing about 4# each so let her walk but noticed something grey and though a hog rooting by a downfall. Slowly I slipped up and found a Bobcat staring about 40 yards right at me, never had a chance to take a Bobcat and being as season was open.....

Was a great weekend and my friend from Gulfport had three hogs by him in the palmettos and didn't have a bow shot, he carried a .45 but decided an arrow was more him than taking one with the pistol. Sent the Indiana boys back with 4 pigs into the snow and ice, being as they have upwards of 14" waiting for them at home it didn't take long before I had a text thanking me for a great weekend and the beginning of plans for the next trip.
