I had one in .243 & trust me you will regret it. For the same money you can go to duck's and get a Savage in the same calibers and be happy happy happy. don't do it you've been warned.

i was thinking the same, if you're wanting to buy something new and in the lower budget bolt action search those cheap savages have been known good firearms for awhile now..

floridaguntrader.com great place for hunting rifle deals on used ones..

as for calibers: .308 is the do it all round in my opinion with availability a large factor in my opinion.

happy hunting!!

To stay on your question .270 or .243 My choice is the .270 simply because it has the knock down power. A .243 won't have it for a big hog in Florida. I use an A bolt .270 But the 30-06 does have more types of shells. It is all a matter of choice because with a well placed shot any weapon will kill anything. :saluting

I've come around and am giving the 243 a try in my h&r single shot with a bull bbl. the bbl wt and thick recoil pad should eliminate Any felt recoil and a 100 gr partition or tsx at close to 3,000 fps should ventilate anything between 3-500 lbs out to 300 yds I'd guestimate. very close on the heels of a 25-06.

I have a Remmy 700 CDL in .243 and shoot 95 Grain Winchester Silver tips out of her (Wife and my stepsons primary gun). Have her topped with a Leupold VX-II 3-9x40 scope. Last hunt I used her on was in 2008 in Kentucky, and fired 5 round killing a fork horn buck and two does at around 70 yards. All three deer fell within 20 yards of being shot. A .243 can do the job.
