the 7mm08 and 25-06 are both great calibers. I own both. the 08 is a short action and can be had in a shorter bbl ( mine is 18 1/2" ) and lighter gun, but has a lttle more recoil, but can be loaded with much heavier bullets up to 175 gr. the 06 has less recoil but bullet wts are app 75- 120 gr, and you realy need at least a 24" bbl and its a long action. you really can't go wrong with either. if you ever wanted to go for hog I'd give the edge to the 08 for its shorter length and heavier bullet.

i shoot a 7mm-08 in a tikka and I luv this gun for deer and hog.the only round i shoot is the Hornady 139 gr.SST.never had an animal run more than 75 yards.shot a buck at 267 yards and dropped him in his tracks also coyote at 230 yards.my rifle is sighted it at, an inch and a half high at 100 yards.also if you can find it a 260 is a great caliber a buddy of mines wife hunts with one and she luvs it

Don't forget the 7mm-08. That is gonna be my next rifle purchase
