CRESTVIEW - Wildlife officials in northwest Florida are asking the public for help in finding the person who fatally shot a black bear that had been wounded before.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the bear that was wounded last November in Fort Walton Beach was shot and killed early Friday.
It's a felony to shoot a black bear — a protected species in Florida.
The bear was wounded on Nov. 18 when a homeowner shot it twice in the right shoulder. The man said he thought the bear was going to attack his dog.
Early Friday morning, residents heard a gunshot and found the 250-pound bear lying in front of a house. It had been shot with a high-caliber rifle.
