Miracle Gro in the blue bag is the cats azz. It is moisture control, so you can't really over water or under water it. A little pricey, but if you check HD, Lowe's and Wally mart, usually one of them has it on sale.

Or you can make your own. You can get the cheap bag of potting mix, a bag of perlite, and a bag of sand. But you won't really save much

Try to find you a barrel and get some compost going. Thats the key to healthy plants. Last year I did it just in the 55 gal Barrel you see there. If you don't have a lot of room in the yard for a big bin, this works ok. During the hot time of year it will break down into compost in about 2 weeks or so. I now have a couple others(deer feeder barrels that bears/coons tore up). . I am fortunate to have room in the yard for a big compost bin. That's what I was tinkering with the other day when I blew my ankle out for the second time.

Fill it to the top with yard waste(leaves and grass clippings). Dump everything in there that was a plant. Any veggie scraps, onion peels, fruit peels, corn husks, coffee grounds including filter, hedge trimmings, egg shells, etc

When the compost breaks down it will turn black and look like dirt. Im telling you that is like steak and taters to plants. They will take off. Mix the compost in with your potting soil or use it as a top dressing
