kc45, There are actually 5 trees in this plot, 3 cedars and 2 sweetgums. The sweetgums and 2 of the cedars were not in the original food plot many years ago and when I expanded it I didn't take time to remove them. Planting with a grain drill or a spinner spreader they are not a problem, but as you can tell, planting with a 2-row planter they really are in the way. The 2 sweetgums are close enough to each other that they could be utilized as 2 legs for a treestand. I have noticed young deer are prone to play around the cedars when momma is feeding on the plot. Probably a hide & seek type game! It's a lot of fun to watch 'em play! Each time I think about cutting them, there is either a crop in the patch I'd rather not disturb or I don't have time to do the job. I do prune the lower branches on the cedars so I can see past them and back into the planted pines. It's amazing how a deer can stay behind just one tree for such a long time. Treefarmer

Weekly update on corn patch for a food plot: Had last good rain on the 22nd. Cultivated one day last week and missed all the rain from the little storm over Memorial Day weekend. Corn is growing good. The deer are not bothering it at this time, have a couple of bags of Milorganite for the perimeter if they begin to linger in the patch too long. Treefarmer

Corn patch food plot update: Got an inch and 4/10 of rain this am before daylight. Corn is growing well. The Gerber pocket knife is almost 8" when opened so you can see how it has grown in a week. Treefarmer
