This is my first garden so i have tons to learn. I'm very open to ideas and feedback. I have been reading and watching everything i can find abt backyard garden the last couple of months and have really enjoyed the Garden thread on here. Anyways i finally got around to planting this past weekend. I have worked a 20' x 60' area for the last 6 months and was excited about planting it. I got my seedlings from a couple different places. After buying most of them at the feed store and lowes i found that Walmart carries the same brand and actually has a really good selection and for a quarter of the price i was paying. Hopefully next year i will have time to start from seed if not i will definitely be buying all my plants from Walmart.
Plant List
12 tomatoes
12 cucumbers
12 squash
12 Sting Beans
24 dozen okras
24 zucchini
6 egg plant
2 green peppers
2 red peppers
6 rolls of corn
potatoes
I fenced it after planting everything to keep the dogs and slow the wild life from helping them selves. I have already seen some squirrel check out the area. I bought some cheap smelly soak to hang around the fence to see if it helps at least stop the deer.
Get a bag of milorganite and spread a band around the perimeter of the garden. It is what we use on our food plots to keep deer off temporarily. Also you can make a simple scare crow. Just need 2 pieces of scrap 1x2. make a cross out of it and put an old t shirt on it. Use a milk jug to make a head, paint a smiley face on it, and glue an old hat on it. Works like a champ
Looking good sam. I'm still trying to talk my wife into letting my till under the backyard. That would give me a area about 20x50.
Thanks guys. I will get some of the milorganite and work on a scare crow.
The corn and sunflowers came up and are growing well! I had something come through and eat the eggplant so i need to replace them and hope they dont come back.
