Day 208 corn patch food plot
Weather has been very mild, lots of fog in the mornings. Some colder weather would probably do the hunting a good turn but the deer are here no matter weather condition. Cold weather would probably bring more traffic to the corn patch and it would for sure cause our power bill to go up!
Still plenty of activity on the trail camera at the corner of the rough woods, planted pines and the food plot. Been seeing does with yearlings and still some spotted fawns. Also the little button buck is staying in the corn by himself quite a bit.
2 different red foxes have shown up in the mornings, one has lost part of his tail (it's about 2/3 length). He looks unbalanced.
M/L will be over Friday, then Saturday back to a "real" rifle! :rolleyes Had I had my .243 so far this week, I still wouldn't have seen any antlers.
Pictures today are at the crossing with the trail camera and a couple from the shooting house. One of the little buck in the fog, standing in a shooting lane and the other shows how severe the fog has been.

Good stuff!
Great posts Treefarmer. It's good to get the youngin's out in the woods. Your post reminds me of the first time I took my oldest son out. I had to piggyback him across a swollen creek to get to the stand. It was only just a little more than a ditch the week before but a lot of rain made it very wide and up to my thighs deep. Anyhow once we finally got to the stand we had our hot coffee/cocoa that momma had made for us and sat and waited for the sun to come up. He was about 7 or 8yrs old (33 now) and couldn't sit still for nothing. And to make it worse his momma insisted that I let him wear a camo raincoat she bought for him so it was making all kinds of noise. We sat there waiting for the sunrise and all of a sudden he was quiet. I turned and noticed he was sleeping! Ha! It wasn't 10 minutes before a big ole doe came out on the other end of the field about 60yrds away. I put the scope on her and took her down. Man I thought my son was gonna jump right out of the stand. Good times. Thanks for the memories!
I pray your wife is doing well. Have a blessed Christmas with your family and keep the posts coming. I'm still waiting for my grandsons to get old enough to take them in the woods. If the Lord tarrys it will be a couple more years yet but my oldest grandson (5yrs) likes to go shooting with me.
Day 215 Corn patch food plot
It is a nasty day in the panhandle of Florida! Been raining lightly for about 18 hours, 8/10" so far but it is about 45 degrees with a nw wind.
Early M/L has come and gone, no bucks just does , yearlings and foxes. Been sanding on some rough cypress plaques to mount some antlers for my grand sons, also leveled the skulls with a belt sander with out a dust mask. Have a terrible sinus blockage so bad I didn't go to the woods Saturday morning.
Drug around all day and about 4:15 went to the shooting house over the corn patch. About 5 minutes till 5 I spotted one of the spikes that was on the camera a week or so ago. He walked in from the west, turned south down the 2nd shooting lane, then fed out of sight. He came back out a time or two and finally worked his way to the middle of the patch. Had about 10 minutes of legal shooting time left, all this time I was feeling good about letting him walk but when he turned sidways and I was studying him through the ol' Redfield, some how the saftey went off and I had to dress a deer while I was feeling rotten.
When I went back to the house, my wife said "I heard you shoot, you didn't kill one did you? Well it better be a big one!" I had to confess he was a spike and assured her I would be well soon as I got him dressed and hanging in the oak tree.
Maybe ol' big boy will show up as the rut progresses and the corn patch will be a factor.

Nice! Ain't nothing wrong with a spike. Good shootin'!
