Bodysnatchers thread got me thinking...
Do you guys actually wear it, or does it just hang there. I wear mine every time my boat is under power, unless I am moving to get back on my drift. I learned my lesson one time. I let go of the wheel for just a second to turn around and check something and just about got bounced out of the boat. I had a bunch of folks on board that were inexperienced boaters, so I would have been SOL. After that I always clip mine on. I actually would have no problem if they made it a law that the Captain had to wear it. Especially as fast as these boats are now.
I came across the Gandy bridge a couple years back and there was a boat doing circles out there with no one on board. Luckily I saw FWC on its way to it
My vote yes!
I wear a life vest and carry others plus so much but not so much as to clutter my boat just enough that if it may happen I hope to be prepared!
i would have to say no. i should, but i never got into the habit. i do most of my "running" on a trolling motor.
but i wouldn't have a problem if they made it LAW either.
if you have a good gps nav chartplotter you will not run aground and you will stay in open water. I never wear mine. Then again.. I have never been in my boat solo either.. I think if i was bymyeslf i would tho.
I did a lot of solo night fishing and working on sport boats and I heard way to many horror stories yeah maybe just stories. But I dont want to be one of them and I hope to god than none here become one either.
Its just a little to get used to them "saftey devices"! Sorry but I have been there done that and I never want to go back!
