Anyone here run hounds? I run mostly plotts.
You still have a pack now? I have an old cold nosed gyp that can take a day old track. I'm sure gonna miss her when she goes,she'll be 11 in Nov.Also have a 5 yr old male plott that does pretty good,a 1 1/2 year old gyp I ain't tp sure about yet, ayear old black and tan gyp that gonna rock and roll and a year old cur dogthat's already catchin'.Never been bear hunting,I'd sure like to try it once,I know guys that go to Ga and Mi to run bears.
Mine pretty much do the same to porkers,I used to run deer just as much as hogs but my best friend got killed awhile back and most of our dog crew dismantled after that.Now just me and his brother and our kids hunt together.Half the time we don't even kill the hogs anymore. I'd sure like to get a Plott from N. Carolina,does your stepdad ever raise pups or sell culls? Plott hounds are N. Carolinas state dog and they originated there.Most of mine came from coon hunters,not big game hunting stock. I don't know why ,I've had all kinds of hounds but kinda got hooked on Plotts 12 years ago. If I ever figure out how I'll post some pics.
i have coonhounds--blueticks. actually been looking at a plott recently. hadnt made my mind up on him.
All my plotts came from coon hunters,I love them. Never coon hunted though. I have been trapping some in my feed room lately. Caught 2 young ones,a possum,and one giant,nasty boar coon. I couldn't get my hands near the trap and had to shoot that one.
