Anybody tried these yet? I took the leap and ordered a dozen 300's from PSE the other day. They should be here by tomorrow.
I haven't heard anything negative about them, but I wasn't sure if I was getting all sides of the story. I'm hoping that they live up to the hype. They are supposed to be lighter with a stronger spine than other arrows rated for 60/75#. I like my Carbon Express Terminator Lites, but they don't make them anymore, and the closest arrow that they make now to them are the Maxima Hunters, and I just can't justify $120/doz. Especially when the X Weaves are only $77/doz for shafts.
I got my wraps, blazers, and Arizona EZ Fletch primed and ready, and I'll let ya'll know how they shoot.
Last I was aware, the same company making the Carbon Express shafts in Mexico was providing PSE with theirs. You might get lucky and get the same quality as you're used to.
Cool stuff. These are the new Radial X Weave pattern, and at 8.6 gpi for the 300's, it's gonna increase my arrow speed a little. Might give up a little downrange kinetic energy, but not enough to matter. Maybe those few extra fps will make the difference between the deer jumping the string before the arrow gets there. And, maybe I've just had too many Mike's Hard Black Cherry drinks too.
The speed will help, I've always been a speed nut... However, the fps required to strike a deer before he can react to the shot is 285fps at twenty yards. Anything over that will help you overcome mistakes in judging distances that will surely help you out on a hunt, but deer "jumping" the string isn't an issue beyond that 285 mark.
The study that confirmed this was done in part by the Whitetail Institute, the AMO, and Jennings Archery in 1998.
That being said, check your downrange KE. This has to be done by shooting through a chronograph downrange to get your downrange arrowspeed. An arrow flying 300fps three feet in front of the bow will NOT be flying 300fps at 40yds. Wind resistance, gravity, and fletching styles, materials, and alignments all play a part. Don't sacrifice too much KE in your setup until you checkout what it'll be doing at striking distance.
How far downrange do I need to chrono the arrow? Gander has a range, but I'm not sure they'd really appreciate me shooting thru the chrono at 5 yards let alone 15 yards downrange.
