Folks,
I run a primitive archery practice at Camp Soule(boy scout camp) in Clearwater Florida, for a group of medieval reenactors (www.sca.org) once a month except during the summer. You do not have to be a reenactor to participate, but are welcome to check us out. The next practice will be Feb. 7th 2010, Super bowl sunday, we start at noon and will go till about 4pm. Some loaner equipment is provided it you do not have a longbow or recurve bow, and arrows. We also have loaner gloves, and arm guards. So if you have never shot archery before, or have done modern archery and would like to try primitive archery please come out and join us. Again it is free, and fun for all. Any age is welcome provided the can prove they can shoot safely. Children under 18 must have a parent or guardian accompany them on the range while shooting.
This practice is free, but is for primitive archey gear only.
Primitive archery gear includes Longbows, or recurve bows, wood arrows, and feathers. Field or target points ONLY, and modern plastic nocks are ok.
No Bow sights are allowed, no mechanical releases, and NO compound or pully bows.
All equipment is to be inspected by a marshal prior to being allowed on the shooting line.
We shoot at 48" fita targets, at 15, 20, 30 and 40 yeards. We also have fun shoots with ballons, cards, and friendly competitions on certain weekends.
Also at the practice is a Throwing Knife and Spear area where you can try your hand at throwing weapons. We are waiting to recieve our Axe's and as soon as we get them that will also be practiced.
No intoxicating beverages are allowed, water and soda is ok, and some water is provided. There are bathroom facilities on site, and it is suggested that you bring your own lunch, or eat prior to coming as there is no food service available on sight, there are a fastfood and grocery stores nearby if you want to pick somthing up before arriving.
