So who is ditching their bow and getting a crossbow this upcoming season? I've been debating on wether or not I will get one. My dad has one and it's very accurate 20 yds further than I am comfortable shooting a deer with my bow. Choices, choices....
Lots of debate about it..
I have one already(Barnett quad 400). I have a total of zero kills with it. My dad hunted with one for years, and I am an experienced shooter, having shot his 1,000's of times, plus shooting mine several hundred times. I do not think they are any more accurate/powerful than a good compound or can shoot any further. I will hunt with mine. The way I look at it, it gives me more stand choices and set up choices. I will hunt with my bow too. Sorta depends on the stand and the terrain. Sorta like if I carry my 30-30 or a 25-06
That's how I am viewing mine if i get one. I will still use my bow for the tighter stands where I probably won't get a shot over 20yds but if I grow some food plots I'd rather be able to shoot towards the end of them. You know those bucks always come out at the end of the food plots no matter how big they are.
I don't see the big deal.. It's your hunt... enjoy it.
You should be able to shoot just the same with todays compound bows as you can with a crossgun... if not... maybe you should stick to the crossgun and leave the real bows to those who can
I just set up and sited in a Horton Summit for my brother with a 3dot scope and that thing is dead on 20,30, and 40yds right out of the box no brainer except for the shot placement on live animals. He just put in for Xbow hadicapped permit for WMA's and got his back (good till 2015) as he can't shoot a compound even at 35lbs after two back operations plus he has felony convictions (young and dumb) so can't carry a gun so this lets him hunt again. He used the xbow during gun season but only saw does (9within 10yds) seated on the ground.
