You'll ruin your fletching if you shoot into hay. I ruined a few arrows shooting into hay. This was with a regular compound bow. I could imagine that a crossbow is faster.

One thing you can do, (I've haven't done this yet) is to go to a furniture store and ask them for the plastic that the furniture gets shipped in. Get a burlap bag from the feed store and fill it with the plastic till it's about to bust. Sewing the bag closed is best, but if you don't sew, take a bunch of cheap zip ties and close it up. Shoot it till it's tore up and then make another one.

I hate shooting into hay.

You can get a bag target for around $40, but you can't shoot BH's in them. Ask me how I know. I bought a Rinehart 18-1 target. They are right at $100, but I will never need to buy another target again

I shoot 125 grain heads in my xbow. zero it in with field points, then check your BH to make sure they fly the same. There really isn't a lot of tuning you can do with an xbow like you can with a compound bow. The only thing you need to make sure of is the xbow is cocked in the same spot each time. With the bow at rest, take a sharpie pen and mark each side of the string at the edges of the riser. When you cock it, is should be cocked directly in between your two black marks. If you use a rope or cocking device, it will usually get it right. But if you hand cock it, more than likely it will be off to one side or the other. A CM one way or the other will result in many inches off on the target, as it throws the cam timing off badly, and puts stress on the limbs
