well I went out, there was several mud holes south of the check station, but they had the grader out the day before opening day, and had the road passable by truck. A car would have an issue.
I stayed to the north, but didnt see any bambi's. Mostly nocturnal still not to mention that morning there was more traffic on schoolbus road than the deer had seen since last year. I was the 90'th hunter thru the check station.
When I checked out, someone had a doe hanging from the gambrel and the biologist was getting weight and measurements.
There wwas plenty of fresh tracks, but most i am guessing were during the night.
All I was able to take home were about 10 chigger bites!, and an empty cooler.
<:(
Any additional reports out of arbuckle? I was thinking abt venturing up there but have heard all negative comments. Can anyone shed light?
I hunted there Sunday - Wednesday of the first week. Guy shot a STUD 9 point Tuesday night. He was way they hell out off the Tram Rd. James Stovall is the dude's name. He rides a bike. If you see him, pick his noodle. He has been hunting there for 20 years and has it dialed in. You have to walk far to see deer there. We were walking 1.5 miles in. We didn't get anything but the deer are around. Don't fool around. Hunt the major and minors. I'd get in the stand and 6 AM for no reason. The deer were moving during the major and minor feed times. No other time at all.
I have the opening muzzle loader out there. Should be running wild at that point.
James Stovall is the guy who killed the state record non-typical out of Green Swamp West years ago!! It is on display at Bass Pro Shop as a full body mount
Yep. You met a legend. And the man. Shoulda bought him a beer
