JUST PICKED UP A 50 CAL OPTIMA BY CVA. WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS ONE AND WHAT TYPE PROJECTILE WORKS BEST FOR IT. 26" BARREL ANY EXPERIENCE OUT THERE ON THIS MODEL, BP STARTS IN A WEEK -NOT A LOT OF TIME TO EXPERIMENT, :eek
THANKS IN ADVANCE :saluting
I have 2 CVA's. A Mag bolt 150 and a Wolf. The Wolf is basically the same exact gun as the Optima. Same action and everything, just the Optima is fancier. In both of mine, I shoot 250 grain Shockwaves with (2) 777 pellets. Tack driver, zeroed 1/2" high at 50 yards, and shoots about a 1-1.5" group at 100. I load and carry both guns to the stand with me. The powerbelts will shoot well also. If you decide to shoot them, go with the 295gr hollow points. The aero tips and the lighter ones do not have as good of terminal results
I have a CVA wolf also.........I have some 777 from last year, do you think its OK or do I need to buy some new stuff?
:chain
Me personally, I buy a new pack of 777 pellets every year. I have one of the bigger boxes that I put all the older stuff in and use it for the gun range. I get one of the smaller packs every year to use strictly for hunting. All of the older stuff gets rotated to the bigger pellet box. I can tell you that I have never had a ML mis fire. Ever. As long as it is kept somewhat away from humidity you should be fine. I have real black powder from the 80's for my old T/C sidelocks that will still shoot fine. I just like to take the "What if's" out of the equation
go over to www.modernmuzzleloader.com its a free forum with tons of great info on there. go to the inline section and ask that you will get more info than you will ever want there are a lot of optima shooters on there.
