Yes you have to get the bore butter out before you shoot it. It's supposed to be a rust preventative while storing it

How much did you put down the barrel?

I use Natural Lube 1000+bore butter and never have any issues. 1 fast pass of a dry patch down the barrel before loading just to make sure everything is clear and I'm ready to go.

I have old yellow tube i lather it up but it take only a few wipes and its out.

I used the homemade mixture to clean my gun yesterday. Must say it worked very well. Granted I only shot it one time, but I only used one patch to clean it, and about 4-5 dry patches to dry it. I would recommend it for anyone. However I would also suggest oiling everything down at the end of the season as it will be too clean and stuff like the breech plug will rust
