yesterday after a crappy effort from the doves while dove hunting, the land owner asked me if i wanted to go shoot a deer from his deer woods. now, a couple of my co-workers have hunted this property a few times and went on about how well groomed it is and how much game is there and wow, it was nice. although i have never deer hunted there, everytime i have ever been to their property i have seen lots of wildlife, from bobcats to coyote, deer, hogs, dillos, EVERYTHING. so i was psyched just to get the invite. we went out there and i saw the BIGGEST armadillos i have ever seen, they were huge, probably twice the size of a football. anyways we only saw one deer, a spike. he was hoping that the group of does he saw that morning, or the 4 point would come out. i had a great time. his feeders go all year and the turkey, deer and hogs go crazy over there. as a general rule they only take 8 points or better, he has taken 4 or 5 really nice bucks, a couple of 10's and a 12 that were huge. i was happy to get the chance to go. while leaving i almost ran over a pig in his driveway, there was 2 that i saw. with christmas next week and family in town that will probably be my last outing for deer, and though i didn't harvest one, i sure had fun. there was otters in the creek causin' a ruckus, and hoot owls goin off. truly a beautiful place to be.
