Nice little mess of fish. Do you regularly keep gar, or did you just want to try one?

Also, are you gonna leave us guessing or at least mention which river, or which direction from Valrico? LOL

Funny... It was Shell Creek in the Punta Gorda area. I have "hear" Gar are good if prepared right. From what I understand, fish patties is the way to go with them. I will let you know. I will try just about anything once.

I've heard of folks making "fish balls" out of gar, carp, and other fish usually considered "trash", but it's never interested me enough to try it. If you can't knock off the scales, head it, gut it and fry it, or better yet just fillet it, it ain't worth the trouble to me. Good luck with it, though!

LOL. I have found ALOT of urban myths false over the years. When filleted properly, you end up with 2 beautiful boneless tenderloins. I did tonight as well. Not a single bone. Can't wait to batter them up! Here is a great video on how this is done. BTW.. those 2 brothers on Swamp People are certainly interesting! I love that show. Then again all my family reunion everyyear is in the Okeefenokee swamp! No I am not kidding. :rockon
