With the fishing behind it was time to get to the most important part of any successful fishing trip. I kept things simple. Fried fish and hushpuppies!! The kids devoured the fish.
Being the first time I have filleted or cooked a gar, I kept the meat separate. (the gar is the fillets on the bottom) It was not as good as the Bluegill or Stumpknockers. BUT, it was still very good. The key is to slice it up into smaller pieces for frying. That was no different than any other larger fish I want to fry. Zero bones in the gar. Not one. I could see how it would be a great fish for patties. The texture would be great for it.
Overall everything the meal and trip gets an overall thumbs up from me!!
Tightlines everyone!
