I tried putting farm raised shiners in little buckets put in the water an they still die quick they are to weak or something they dont adjust good. Im just going to suck it up an start using plastic baits an cranks. Cant use live baits in fishing tournements so might as well learn how the pros do it lol
Once you learn to use the bait caster properly you will never go back. The only time I use anything else is an ultra light spinner for bluegill/ specs. The baitcaster enables one to pitch and flip. With vegetation like we have in florida the pitsh is often better suited than casting.

very true.. you can cast towards a big overhanging piece of vegetation and if you see its bout to hit it you can put pressure on your thumb and slow down the spin. Saved me tons of time from getting stuck across the way on a tree or something.. i got one spinning reel for bass and two bait casters.. Every reel i buy for bass from now on will be a bait caster unless i find a nice spinner on sale.
I've got that same set up with the bucket. Works good but need to freshen the water every once in a while. I had a Calcutta bait caster that I bought but never gave it a chance. I'm pretty good with the spinner and never saw a need to change. If I need to I can always skip my lure under any branches. Braided line makes a big difference in casting too.
